Nearly Half of Facebook Users Check it Multiple Times a Day

Overall Facebook use among the adult, internet-using population hasn’t changed since last year – but overall engagement is at an all-time high.

According to data from the Pew Research Internet Project, 45 percent of Facebook users say they engage with the site “several times a day”.

And 70% check Facebook at least once a day.

Overall Facebook penetration has stayed the same over the last year, however, holding strong at 71%. This makes it the most popular social network by more than two-fold.

The only exception to this is with grandma:

“The one notable exception is older adults: For the first time in Pew Research findings, more than half (56%) of internet users ages 65 and older use Facebook,” says Pew.

The big winner of the past year, at least in terms of getting people signed up and using the service, was Instagram.

“For the first time, roughly half of internet-using young adults ages 18-29 (53%) use Instagram. And half 0f all Instagram users (49%) use the site daily,” says Pew.

Instagram saw the biggest jump in use over the past year – nine percent (from 17 percent to 26 percent).

Actually, all social media use is climbing:
